Oxygen is Key: Manipulating the Microbial Ecology for Health and Healing

Most periodontal patients struggle between office visits, and it’s no wonder why. Toothbrush, rinse and floss don’t reach past 3mm. Break the cycle of gingival inflammation and disease with the power of oxygen delivered deep into periodontal pockets via a prescription tray. If you are frustrated by tissue that chronically bleeds, by patients who fearfully refuse treatment, or by ineffective homecare, then you want to attend this course. Scaling combined with prescription trays leads to better reductions in pocket depths and bleeding than scaling alone. Your patients need this help and they can only get it from you.

After completing this course you will understand:

-the benefits and limitations of antimicrobial and mechanical therapies for biofilm control.
-how and why antimicrobials with oxidative/reduction reactions effectively manage biofilms.
-how to incorporate localized antibiofilm therapies into existing treatment plans.
-how to help preserve the health of your implant, cosmetic, and restorative cases.

How to Incorporate Sleep in Your Practice, Effectively & Profitably

It seems like you can’t go to any dental CE program today without someone bringing up sleep apnea and airway issues. This isn’t just some fad. The ADA even published recommendations in 2017 that all dentists should be screening their patients for possible sleep apnea. And sleep apnea has been connected to almost everything in dentistry from bruxism to periodontal disease to implant failures. But how do you actually incorporate sleep into your practice, and do so without messing up the rest of your practice?

In this webinar Dr. Spencer will discuss:
1. Why we should care about sleep disordered breathing in our patients (and in our loved ones)
2. How “second hand sleep apnea” might be effecting you personally
3. A simple approach to screening, diagnosis and treatment (that won’t end you up in prison or losing your license)

Changing Concepts in Preventive Dentistry

with Special Guest Speaker:  Dr. Mark CannonDr. Mark Cannon webinar image

Recorded on April 10th, 2020

2.0 CE Credits

The participant will understand how to properly diagnose and manage preventive dental concerns and the true objectives of the “age one” visit. The astonishing research into the microbiome, the effects of probiotics and dysbiosis being the root problem of dental diseases with many systemic implications will be presented.

Part 1. “Probiotics: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”
Probiotics by definition are “live bacteria that confer a health benefit upon the host”. The concept of probiotic bacteria has been understood since 1907, but the practice of fermenting food and beverages is thousands of years old. Indeed, agriculture and then civilization, evolved around fermented beverages. Many thousands of scientific articles have been published confirming the benefits of probiotics. Then
why aren’t probiotics universally accepted? There are more than a few reasons, some revolving around the unfortunate circumstance that many probiotics on the market are worthless, not even the correct species let alone a beneficial strain, others are cautious due to the few seemingly negative reports, and then we have those that just can’t accept the fact the bacteria are important in health, let alone control our behavior. This presentation will provide the attendee a complete over view of probiotics in health and especially in regards to oral health and the oral systemic link. Oral probiotic products from a number of reputable companies will be discussed, along with their supporting research. The attendee will be able to explain the history of probiotics, the research supporting their role in health, and implement probiotics into an office protocol.

The attendee should:
– understand the rationale supporting the health benefits of probiotics
– understand the mechanism for boosting the immune system
– recognize “research” with hidden agendas
– be able to implement the probiotic protocol best suited for their practice

Part 2. “Polyols in Preventive Dentistry”
Polyols are sometimes referred to as “sugar alcohols” which makes them sound like a “rum and coke”. Nothing could be more mis-leading, as these naturally produced sugars (even human cells make small amounts) help regulate the microbiome. Xylitol and erythritol have been demonstrated in many studies to benefit oral health, but research into the microbiome of hunter-gatherers proves that the polyols have many more benefits that just oral. This presentation will discuss the over-all health benefits of polyols and the many mis-conceptions commonly expressed. A review of all the polyol products, their applications, and how to successfully integrate the products into a prevention centered practice will be
discussed.

The attendee should:
– understand the history of polyols and how they first were introduced
– recognize the role of polyols in gut protection and epigenetics
– be able to utilize xylitol and erythritol products in dental prevention
– educate patients as to good choices in dental care products for children

Most dentists agree that one of the reasons they decided on a career in dentistry, besides wanting to take care of people, is because they liked the idea of being their own boss. And while most of us enjoy self-employment, we find that being the boss is one of the most challenging parts of our work. Many of us dread dealing with “staff-issues” and often say: “Good employees are hard to find; I don’t like to manage people; I don’t know how to motivate employees and hold them accountable.”

Of course, there is no such thing as a perfect employee, a perfect team, or a perfect leader. Still, there are a few critical steps that you can take to build a winning team and create an environment of accountability, coachability, and teamwork that brings out the best in everyone.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • How to attracts, interview, and select the right employees to strengthen your company culture.
  • How to conduct group interviews.
  • What questions to ask when evaluating whether a potential hire is a good cultural fit.
  • How to get the new employee onboarding process right.
  • How to engage, align, and retain your employees.
  • How to give supportive feedback that energizes your teams and improves performance.
  • How to deal with toxic behaviors and employees.
  • How to delegate like a boss.
