Course Title:
Breathe in, Calm Out: Unraveling ADHD and Anxiety Through Proper Breathing Analysis in Children
Course Description:
Many children are being diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety on a regular basis without a full evaluation of their breathing pattern. Many physicians are quick to prescribe medication to improve mental focus and decrease anxiety and depression for our young children which may not be getting to the root of the problem.
When the nose is blocked, your child sleeps with the mouth open. This means his or her sleep will be affected. Daytime tiredness caused by poor sleep means poor concentration in school, and over time, this difficulty focusing can lead not only to problems with cognition and working memory, but to a diagnosis of ADHD and in many cases anxiety.
Dr. Hobson will discuss the importance of a thorough breathing evaluation and how restoring proper nasal breathing will improve the child’s biochemistry including restoring correct levels of CO2 and proper circulation to the brain. This course will review how mouth breathing causes adverse effects on facial growth, health, academics, and behavior.
Course Objectives:
- Identify the signs of sleep disordered breathing in children
- Identify the traits of a mouth breathing child
- Identify what causes mouth breathing in children
- Create a treatment plan to restore nasal breathing and reduce adenoid and tonsillar swelling
- Learn how improper breathing can cause ADHD and anxiety to occur
- Recognize the difference between sympathetic nervous system stress activation breathing versus parasympathetic nervous system relaxation breathing
- Learn and perform breathing exercises to reduce anxiety and improve mental focus for your child
