Proactive Patient Promise: Earlier Intervention for Better Outcomes

EARN 1.0 CE CREDITS

What if the greatest opportunity in dentistry isn’t treating disease better but recognizing it earlier? This course explores a proactive approach to patient care that moves beyond the traditional restorative model toward earlier identification, education, and intervention. Through clinical cases, diagnostic technology, communication strategies, and minimally invasive treatment options, participants will explore how to identify oral disease earlier and create conversations that help patients understand their conditions and make informed decisions about their health. Attendees will examine practical approaches to caries and periodontal disease, learn how diagnostic tools can support earlier intervention, and explore a repeatable Plan → Process → Prescribe framework for creating greater consistency across the dental team. The goal is not simply increased case acceptance; it is building patient trust, preserving healthy tooth structure, and improving long-term oral health outcomes.

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Differentiate between reactive and proactive models of dental care and explain how earlier identification of oral disease can create opportunities for more conservative intervention and preservation of healthy tooth structure.

2. Apply a condition-based communication framework—Condition → Impact → Possibility—to help patients understand clinical findings and make informed decisions without relying on selling or persuasion.

3. Evaluate diagnostic information and clinical findings to identify opportunities for earlier intervention in caries and periodontal disease and appropriately match preventive, minimally invasive, or restorative solutions to the condition.

4. Implement a Plan → Process → Prescribe approach that aligns the doctor, hygienist, dental assistant, and administrative team around consistent workflows, patient education, and prescribed care.
