About The Speaker
Dr. JeNNIFER HOBSON
Dr. Jennifer Flage Hobson, PT, DPT, MTC, CFC, CMTPT
Jennifer Flage Hobson is a European-trained physical therapist; she earned her degree in physical therapy with an emphasis on manual therapy at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She completed Hogeschool internships in Holland and Madrid, Spain, and then concluded with a clinical residency in Advanced Orthopedics in Chicago. Dr. Hobson earned a Manual Therapy Certification, Cranio-Facial (Rocabado) Certification, and Doctorate in Physical Therapy under the direction of the renowned New Zealand expert Dr. Stanley Paris at the University of St. Augustine, Florida. She received certification in Trigger Point Dry Needling, by the renowned Dr. Jan Dommerholt, through Myopain Seminars. Dr. Hobson has been instrumental in introducing this technique to the state of Illinois. Fluent in the Spanish language, Dr. Hobson continues to train and teach in Santiago, Chile, with Dr. Mariano Rocabado, a leading Cranio-Facial, TMJ, Neck and Spine rehabilitation expert. She also teaches the Cranio-Facial Rocabado courses through the U of St. Augustine, one of only two instructors in USA.
Dr. Hobson trained with Joy Moeller, BS, RDH, and Sandra Coulson, MS, ST, ED,COM who are two leading instructors in the field of Myofunctional Therapy in the US. Dr. Hobson enhanced her knowledge of restoring not only the head, neck and jaw, but also the tongue and its functions related to proper development of the mouth, teeth, and throat. She is also training with Dr. Simon Wong and Dr. Sandra Kahn through the Gopex program
Dr. Hobson is a certified educator of Buteyko Breathing method (the simple idea of breathing volume reduction) through the instruction of Patrick McKeown, one of the few practitioners accredited by Professor K. P. Buteyko. She is also working toward Dr. Lois Laynee’s Restorative Breathing Method certification.

About The Speaker
Dr. Brian B. Nový
Dr. Nový holds faculty appointments at Western University, and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He served on the American Dental Association Council of Scientific Affairs from 2010-2014, and in 2016 was appointed the consumer representative, United States Food & Drug Administration Dental Products Panel. His papers pertaining to cariology and dental materials are published in various journals including the Journal of the American Dental Association, the Journal of Dental Research, the Journal of Evidence Based Dentistry, Dentistry Today, Dental Economics, and the National Academy of Medicine. His awards include the ADA Evidence Based Practice Award, the American Dental Association Adult Preventive Care Practice of the Year, the Dugoni Award, and the Academy of General Dentistry Weclew Award.

Dr. jarod johnson
Dr. Jarod Johnson has a private practice in Muscatine, Iowa. Dr. Jarod has received advanced training in behavior management, sedation, hospital dentistry, trauma, special health care needs, interceptive orthodontics, space maintenance, oral hygiene, and dietary counseling. His energetic personality allows him to relate to kids on an individual level. He understands the importance of children having a positive dental experience and strives to provide the best care tailored to each child’s needs.
Dr. Jarod enjoys educating children and their families on the importance of oral health so they can establish good habits for a lifetime of smiles. His goal is to develop relationships with each of his patients to establish a dental home that is welcoming from infancy through adolescence.

A review and management of the more common yet serious Medical Emergencies particular to the dental office. A Medical crisis can be triggered by an exacerbation of a pre-existing health condition or directly by the stresses and treatment of oral conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to routinely revisit and maintain the skills to recognize, diagnose, stabilize, and manage medical emergencies when they develop. It is a Dentists obligation to be prepared for physiologic derangements as they might occur in the course of dental care. This presentation is designed to serve as a nidus for further study to improve your skills for intervention of acute destabilizing health events.

About The Speaker
DR. MICHAEL HIGGINS
Following dental school, Dr. Higgins completed a Hospital General Practice Residency in New York, after which he was then accepted into the anesthesiology residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Chicago, 1980-82. Since completion of his anesthesia training, Dr. Higgins has practiced dental anesthesiology, providing office based anesthesia care throughout the Northern Illinois area.
In addition to his private practice, Dr. Higgins is a long-standing faculty member with the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Illinois Hospital Medical Center, and holds the academic rank of Associate Professor of Anesthesiology within that department and the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine. Dr. Higgins is a regional and national lecturer and is published in the area of Anesthesiology for Dentistry. He is a consultant to the Illinois State Department of Professional Regulation.
Dr. Higgins has remained very active at all levels of the dental society. On the local level, he served on Mediation & Peer Review for the Chicago Dental Society, as President of the Northwest Suburban Dental Society, on the Chicago Midwinter Lecture and Exhibits Committees, as Program Chairman of the Chicago Midwinter Meeting, and as Chairman of the Members Group of the Chicago Dental Society.
On the state level, Dr. Higgins is pleased to have served on the Publications and Legislative committees and other numerous committees of the Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS), as a member of ISDS Board of Trustees, Program Chairman of the ISDS Leadership Conference, Program Chairman for the ISDS Annual Session, and a delegate to the American Dental Association.
In addition, Dr. Higgins is proud to have represented the Profession as follows:
- The Illinois Dental Society of Anesthesiology, President
- The Illinois State Dental Society, President
- The American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists, President
Dr. Higgins is a Fellow of both the American and the International College of Dentists . He is board certified with the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board of Anesthesiology . He is a Fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology . Dr. Higgins was a recipient of the prestigious Dr. Leonard M. Monheim Lifetime Achievement Award for Anesthesiology.
Dr. Higgins is a native of the Chicago area and resides in Palatine with his wife, Mary, and their three children- Ryan, Lindsay, and Mitchell. He enjoys spending time with his family as well as boating, fishing, and gardening, when he can find the time!

Bioceramics and Endodontics: Understanding How This New Class of Innovative Materials has Created a Paradigm Shift in Pediatric Endodontics
Course Description:
Bioceramics is a new class of materials that has many applications in dentistry, especially in endodontics. Its unique chemistry has led to a paradigm shift in endodontics making it the most desirable interface for biologic healing. Introduced into dentistry in the 1990’s, as Mineral Trioxide Aggregate, it has been further developed to maximize its various properties depending on the application. Dr. Usman will discuss the evolution of this class of biomaterials and compare the various preparations in the marketplace. Using her own clinical cases treating pediatric patients. She will show the various applications in endodontics such as in managing traumatic dental injuries, open apex cases, resorptive lesions and minimally invasive endodontics.

About The Speaker
Dr. Najia usman
Dr. Najia Usman graduated from SUNY Buffalo in 1995 with her DDS. After completing a one-year general practice residency at the Cleveland Clinic she furthered her interest in endodontics by completing a two-year endodontic residency at Oregon Health and Sciences University, Portland, Oregon in 2002. She was awarded her Diplomate Status by the American Board of Endodontics in 2009.
Dr. Usman has been in private practice since 2002. Though she practices full-scope endodontics, she has cultivated an interest in the endodontic management in trauma, pediatrics and resorptive lesions. She has organized and lectured in dental trauma symposiums. She has lectured and clinically taught dental students, endodontic and pediatric residents. She has lectured nationally and locally to study clubs on topics such as Endo-Perio, Atypical Facial Pain, Regenerative Endodontics and Pulpal injuries after Oro-Facial Trauma. Her study The Influence of Instrument Size on Debridement was published in the Journal of Endodontics (Feb 2004, vol 30, 110-112) has been cited over 260 times. She is the proud mother of 4 children ages 18 to 28 and has been married to and shares a private multi specialty practice with Dr. Faisal Quereshy OMFS for 29 years. They reside in Cleveland, Ohio.
