Meet this week’s guest:
Dr. Debra Woo earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, proudly graduating with the Class of 1986 and holds a Master’s degree in Health Sciences. Dr. Woo currently serves as an associate professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences and teaches Ethics and Professionalism within the Integrated Clinical Sciences curriculum. Prior to this, she was recognized for her excellence in teaching at the Dugoni School and received the American College of Dentists Distinguished Faculty Award for Northern California and the Dugoni Helix Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Before transitioning to academia in 2012, Dr. Woo maintained a successful private practice for 30 years while remaining dedicated to the culture of our dental school and organized dentistry. She is a past president of the Dugoni Alumni Association and was honored with the Medallion of Distinction.
As a strong supporter of organized dentistry, she is a lifetime member of the California Dental Association and the American Dental Association. She has served on the ADA Council for Dental Education and Licensure and the CDA Government Affairs Council and presently serves on the Committee for Volunteer Placement.
On a local and national level, she presents courses with attorneys on essential risk management strategies through The Dentists Insurance Company (TDIC), which empower dentists with the skills and resources to optimize patient outcomes while mitigating potential liabilities. In 2014, Dr. Woo was appointed to the Dental Board of California, serving under Governor Jerry Brown and Attorney General Kamala Harris. She chaired multiple committees and was later elected Secretary. Her dedication to public service earned her recognition for leadership within the Governor’s administration.
